Our History

1866
Vosper Thornycroft was formed by the merger of two shipbuilding companies Vosper Limited of Portsmouth and J I Thornycroft of Woolston, Southampton, UK, at which time the Company became listed on the London Stock Exchange as Vosper Thornycroft. Vosper Ltd built small boats and J I Thornycroft had a long history of building destroyers and similar sized craft.

1970s
Vosper Thornycroft was nationalized by the Labour Government in the UK during the mid 1970s becoming a division of British Shipbuilders, a public corporation that owned and managed the UK shipbuilding industry from 1977 and through the 1980s.

Nov. 13, 1970
MILCOM Systems Corporation was established. The company specializes in turnkey engineering design and technical services for advanced electronics and communications systems worldwide, providing services to government and industry customers in the fields of Information Technology (IT) and Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Command (C4ISR).

Feb. 9, 1979
Advanced Engineering and Planning Corp., Inc. (AEPCO) was established. The company provides logistics, technical and program management for helicopters, including the Apache, Blackhawk, Chinook, Warrior and Cobra. Key services include life-cycle support for platforms, systems and equipment, integrated logistics, technical documentation and training.

Feb. 15, 1982
Griffin Services, Inc. was established. Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, the company is a leading provider of base operations and maintenance support services to the U.S. Department of Defense, including facilities management and operations, logistics, engineering services and airfield management.

1985
Vosper Thornycroft became a commercial company again after a management buyout in 1985.

March 17, 1994
The Cube Corporation was established. The Washington-based company's work is principally facilities management for various Government agencies throughout the U.S.

Nov. 1, 2001
The overall Vosper Thornycroft business became known as VT Group plc.

Recognizing the need and efficiencies of supporting holistic allied operations in combat theaters, UK-based VT Group plc sought out U.S. operations that embraced the same passionate, enthusiastic approach to working with customers. VT Group plc acquired Griffin Services, Inc., amplifying in-theater capabilities and extending operations to the domestic United States, and establishing VT Griffin. 

March 31, 2005

VT Group plc, through its U.S. subsidiary VT Griffin Services, acquired The Cube Corporation, adding an additional 1,000 employees to its workforce along with two major contracts-NASA facilities at Wallops Island, Va., and Fort Bliss Army base, Texas.

VT Services, Inc., the legal entity by which VT Group operates, is incorporated in Delaware.

Feb. 12, 2007
VT Group plc acquires MILCOM Systems Corporation, strengthening the quality of VT Group's technical service offerings and increasing their U.S. presence. The Virginia Beach, VA-based corporation becomes VT Milcom, and adds 800 employees to the VT Group plc workforce. 

Dec. 31, 2007
VT Group plc acquires AEPCO. The company becomes VT Aepco. 

July 1, 2008
BVT Surface Fleet was formed as a joint stock subsidiary with the merger of BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions and VT Shipbuilding. BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions owned two shipyards at Scotstoun and Govan on the River Clyde in Glasgow, UK, and VT Shipbuilding owned a shipyard within the Naval Base at Portsmouth, UK.

Oct. 30, 2009
VT Group plc exited the joint venture company BVT Surface Fleet in October 2009, after selling its 45% share of the Shipbuilding Company to BAE Systems. BVT Surface Fleet is renamed the business BAE Systems Surface Ships.

July 2010
Babcock International Group acquired VT Group plc, absorbing its operational functions in the UK and leaving VT Group to operate in the U.S. 

Sept. 2010
VT Group (U.S.) purchased assets from Evergreen Unmanned Systems, a division of Evergreen International Aviation Inc., creating VT Group's Unmanned Systems line of business.
